Fennel’s in season here and makes a great crunchy salad vegetable. Or just a great raw vegetable for noshing, period.

Holy cow, Debbie, where have you been all my (adult) life?
I need to cook low-salt, no-sugar, more veggies, AND in the microwave. And even though I’m a WASP, I’m always mistaken for Jewish (which my stomach is fine with!).
Your blog is a mitzvah.
Thanks for the compliment–although a mitzvah is literally a commandment, which is much more credit than almost anything I’ve posted on Slow Food Fast deserves. Wouldn’t want the world to think any of this was mandatory at the Thou Shalt (or Shalt Not) level (unless I can figure out a foolproof way to eat fantastically well for very little and eliminate the need for dishwashing altogether–wouldn’t that be a neat trick? I could go for making up a commandment like that.) In the more serious matter of eats, I think it’s fine to be mistaken for Jewish when it comes to food–the main rule is, we like it! (of course, we also like to kvetch afterwards, when the heartburn kicks in–this isn’t the part you meant, was it?)
